Vanilla Pod Splits Origin Madagascar — Concentrated Flavor for Making Gourmet Extract and Paste
SaleLet's give 600# of vanilla a new home!
Recently, a commercial extract company contacted us—after 78-years in business they are closing and liquidating their vanilla stock. Impressed with our sustainable values, they knew we could get these pods into the hands of home cooks without added plastic waste. And at this price, it was an offer we couldn't refuse! These Madagascar vanilla pods have a rich and creamy flavor, with very low moisture content making them perfect for extract and pastes. Note—many pods are split.
The vanilla used for commercial extraction is very dry. The low moisture content means it's higher in vanillin (the natural flavor compound) per gram. It will infuse faster!
To keep things simple, we're offering these beans in 188g packs—the amount of vanilla you need to make a half-gallon batch of extract or paste! We know it's a lot, but this sale is perfectly timed to start your holiday gifts; we recommend steeping beans for six months for the most robust flavor profile. Orders over $99 ship free.
And don't miss this commercial grade chopped vanilla now available to home cooks! It's a coarsely-ground vanilla blend of pods from Madagascar, India, and Indonesia. The three-origin mix creates a more flavorful profile; the chopped texture makes it faster to steep. Check it out >>>

FAQs:
- How many vanilla pods are in each preorder pack? Vanilla pods vary in size, that's why we sell them by weight! Each 188 gram pack contains around 80 whole vanilla pods.
- Why not grade A beans? Grade A beans, with their plump and shiny appearance have a higher moisture content. Chefs love them for cooking, as their flavor is more easily absorbed into a dish. However, due to the higher moisture content, they have less vanilla flavor per ounce. When making extract, we want the uglier and drier, yet more flavorful beans.
- How do I make extract? It's as easy as slicing beans in half the long way and covering with alcohol. The hardest part is waiting. See our detailed Vanilla Extract Tutorial.
- What is double-fold vanilla? It is a more intense vanilla extract made by using double the ratio of vanilla beans. Use 188 grams per quart of alcohol.
- Can I make non-alcoholic extract? Yes! You can use 3 parts food-grade glycerin mixed with 1 part distilled water in place of alcohol.
What else do you need to make extract?
- Alcohol: Vodka, rum, or bourbon—all work great! Use any 80-proof (or higher) alcohol.
- Patience: Let your extract sit for at least 8 weeks; 6 months is even better. The flavor will continue to develop for up to a year.
- Xanthan Gum: If making vanilla paste, grab a refill of xanthan gum.
- Gift Bottles: If gifting, decant into cute bottles.
