Why is saffron expensive? Each saffron flower produces three stigmas. The stigmas are hand-harvested and you need over 150 flowers for each gram of dried saffron!

Saffron is common in Middle Eastern and Indian cooking, and you can't make paella without it! Tip: You can steep saffron in ice, as seen in our Saffron TikTok.

Details: Saffron threads hand-harvested in western Afghanistan from organically-grown, non-GMO crocus flowers.

A pot of yellow saffron-infused liquid sits on a marble surface, capturing the essence of Indian cooking, with strands of Gneiss Spice Saffron scattered from a tipped jar. Nearby, there's a wooden spoon and a white mortar, complemented by a patterned cloth.

  • 0.5 gram saffron packed in miniature glass sample jar (non-magnetic). 0.5 g is enough for 5+ recipes; approximately 1 1/2 teaspoons
  • 2.0 grams saffron packed in small magnetic jar (saffron will fill approximately 2/3rds of the glass jar). 2.0 g is enough for 20+ recipes; approximately 2 tablespoons
  • 6.0 grams saffron packed in large magnetic jar (saffron will fill approximately 2/3rd of the large glass jar)

A hand holds a white mortar filled with ground red spice, likely Salt Spiced — Saffron Infused Fleur de Sel by Gneiss Spice. A matching pestle rests inside the mortar. In the background, a patterned cloth and scattered gourmet fleur de sel add an elegant touch to the light surface.
